Weighing in on Planet Fitness

29 Apr

Planet Fitness is at it again… this week they asked a pregnant woman to either put on an over-sized shirt or leave due to her baby bump showing. The gym claims it is due to a no mid-drift policy that is up to manager’s discretion. See the story: ABCnews. I might be able to accept that it was a clear cut violation of the dress code because there was some of her baby bump showing (I think that’s ridiculous but I could accept it); however, she had worn the same tank top multiple times in the past.

Earlier this month a Muslim woman was asked to leave because of her head covering, New York News. And another woman states she was asked to leave because she was “too toned”. Planet Fitness states all of these women were in violation of their dress code.

The Planet Fitness mission statement claims they “are here to provide a unique environment in which anyone – and [they] mean anyone – can be comfortable. A diverse, Judgement Free Zone® where a lasting, active lifestyle can be built.” However from their commercials insulting body builders to their “Gymtimidation” commercial which both depict body builders and fit women as stupid and mindless, they are anything but accepting of everyone.

What baffles me is even with their “Lunk Alarm” and pizza days sabotaging their own members, they continue to grow at a rapid rate.

I didn’t know staying hydrated made people a “lunk”

What do you think? Have you worked out at a Planet Fitness or know someone who does? Do you support their decisions in these cases?

HOLY CRAP. I am literally about to compose a blog and this was going to be part of my rant. I didn’t know about the issues with the women being asked to leave. That only fuels my fire. To make my life easier, I’m just gonna link to this blog instead of rewording it because this is perfect the way it is. gahhhhh.

It just drives me crazy for a company that builds itself as judgement free

Ah, Planet Fitness. Why would you have the word “Fitness” in your business name if you kick out fit people!?!

IMHO, I have to disagree on the pregnant woman showing her “baby bump”. In that picture it is clear to me that you can see her back, sides and stomach…not just a tiny bit of her baby bump. SO ….IF you join a gym with a no-mid-drift-baring policy (that was her choice) and then get upset when they enforce it…it sounds pretty stupid to me to whine about it! If you want to wear stomach/back/side baring clothing you should join a gym without a dress code, especially one that does not leave it up to “discretion”. Plus planet fitness is only $10 per month so it’s not like you belong to a really nice gym to start with… secondly if she is complaining that she got away with not following the dress code pre-pregnancy and they only enforced it because of her baby bump…then maybe she just got lucky and no one noticed until it was obvious with the baby bump. Either way she CHOSE to join a gym with a dress code, so no whining will be tolerated by me if you don’t want to follow rules you signed up for.

I would personally prefer a no-booby showing policy, as mid-drifts don’t bother me, but I get annoyed with seeing girls have their chests hanging out for all to see.

The Muslim scarf thing is ridiculous. That is religious and has nothing to do with wearing skanky inappropriate clothes at the gym.

The girl claiming to be “too fit” what a joke, she is showing her entire stomach, sides and back. She does NOT look too fit. But again if you join a gym that has a no spaghetti strap dress code …what do you expect? You can’t complain when they enforce it. Join a normal gym with no dress code and stop whining.

[…] Moments before opening this to start venting, I stumbled upon more fuel for my fire (another blogger just posted about Planet Fitness) with more irritants such as discriminating against some females that are possibly too fit, too […]
