Spring Time… Tank Top Time!

8 Apr

We have had a very busy couple weeks here! Hubby was gone for two weeks and then for Easter I met him and we drove to South Carolina to celebrate with some friends. It was a lot of fun but the past couple days have been catching up on house work and trying to rest up a bit. I leave again this weekend for a girls’ trip with one of my best friends (this time hubby will be the one stuck at home). Between all the traveling, house prep and training it hasn’t left time for much else!

Lately I’ve really enjoyed arm workouts. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE a killer leg workout and try to work in legs at least 3 times a week per my coach, but it’s probably a good change.

In the spirit of this new found appreciation, I figured I would post an at home tricep workout from a few months ago.

10 walk out tricep push-ups (elbows in at your sides instead of wide)

3 sets:

  • 12 dumbbell chest press
  • 15 BOSU tricep dips
  • 20 BOSU crunches

3 sets:

  • 20 overhead tricep extensions
  • 12 BOSU push ups

3 sets:

  • 12/arm tricep kickbacks
  • 20 v-ups

I hope you all are having an awesome week so far, we’re over halfway to the weekend! Do you have a favorite body part to train?

Fitness Dates

27 Jun

A couple weeks ago I realized it wasn’t so much motivation to workout that I was missing… I wanted to workout, I made time to workout, but I was so bored with my workouts! I can’t justify paying for a gym membership when our apartment complex has a gym but I don’t really like the apartment gym so it’s harder to make myelf go. The cardio area is fine but the weights area is pretty cramped so, it’s not ideal and I have been doing more workouts at home since we have some weights etc. but I’ve been feeling like I want more.

Enter, Living Social. In Japan I had pretty much forgotten about Living Social and Groupon so, I signed up the other day and noticed all the different boot camps and fitness deals on there! Obviously with my ankle I’m having to be a bit choosy and not just trying everything but what a great way to mix up my workouts at a reasonable price. I bought one that’s for personal training sessions and then I just bought another one for a rock climbing gym in our area. Hubby and I both really enjoy climbing and I love finding active date ideas so I’m optimistic that in a couple months (when he’s back home) with physical therapy and working with this new doctor my foot will be able to hold up for it.

Do you go on “fitness dates”? If so, what do you and your significant other do?

Stronger than Excuses

24 Jun

All settled back in MN and my mom is home from the hospital (she had a hip replacement). My parents have an elliptical and some free weights at their house so yesterday I was able to get a workout in and and am about to get in today’s. My ankle’s been bothering me a lot, just overdid it a bit while traveling I think, so yesterday I just did a short workout.

3 sets of:

  • 20 bicep curls
  • 12 lateral shoulder raises
  • 20 push-ups

3 sets of abs for time:

  • 1 min toe-touches (lay on your back with legs straight up in the air, lift shoulders off floor reaching for your toes)
  • 1 min russian twists/grass pickers with weight
  • 1 min reverse crunches with weight
  • 30 sec plank
  • 1 min pulsing side plank (30 sec/side)

I’m thinking I’ll have to modify my workout today to stay off the foot so I’ll post the modified leg workout tomorrow.

Short workout for the day

9 Oct

Well, I may have pushed a little far for my foot yesterday… had a tough PT session and then spent my afternoon moving boxes around and sorting presents. Since we don’t know where I’ll be living after the wedding I got everything into “right away,” “I’ll want it for a year,” and “Put in storage until we settle in for a couple years”. Very productive but a lot of up and down stairs and moving around. So, just ran a couple errands this morning and now trying to stay off it. I really want it to be good to go by the wedding and honeymoon, it’s starting to make me nervous.

Anyway, quick workout plan for the day:

20 Crunches

20 leg lifts

20/side Oblique crunches

20 push-ups

*2 sets

20 bicep curls

20 front shoulder raises

20 lateral shoulder raises

*3 sets

Physical Therapy exercises

I have some recipes I want to make so I’ll hopefully be posting those soon 🙂

Working out while injured… 6

13 Sep

I spent my morning doing some medical research for my mom and working on wedding details (which I need to finish up soon) but had to take a break to get up and move around so I did a quick abs and legs workout.

Also! I finally was able to cook this morning since I didn’t have to stay completely on the crutches so I made my scrambled eggs and some fruit, and it only took like 10 minutes instead of the 30 it took when I attempted to do it myself on the crutches. I’m definitely moving slow and can’t stand very long/walk very far without it starting to throb so, the crutches are still around… but, I’m starting to actually believe I’ll be completely recovered for dancing at my wedding and hiking on our honeymoon and that is very exciting!

Here’s the workout from today:

20 crunches
20 oblique crunches/side
20 leg lifts with “pop” w/ ankle weights on both legs (I just put the one on the injured leg above my boot)
20 crunches with arms extended holding 15 lb weight
40 russian twists with weight

40 marches/leg with ankle weight (this was an old physical therapy one but it’s good for core balance, lay on your back with your knees bent, press your lower back into the floor and then lift one leg at a time)

30 bridges
12 hip extensions/leg with weights tucked behind knee
20 single leg quad extensions/leg using ankle weights
* 3 sets– I only did 2 sets of bridges because it started to hurt my foot during the second.

20 v-ups holding weight
20 sit-ups with weight

Lastly, I had a friend ask about what to buy to start a “home gym” so here’s what I choose to have:

5 lb dumbbells, 8 lb, 15 lb (I want 20 lb but am not going to add 40 lbs to shipping things to Japan so it’ll have to wait)

Ankle Weights

Resistance Bands (Yellow through Blue, the green one isn’t pictured)
