Spring Time… Tank Top Time!

8 Apr

We have had a very busy couple weeks here! Hubby was gone for two weeks and then for Easter I met him and we drove to South Carolina to celebrate with some friends. It was a lot of fun but the past couple days have been catching up on house work and trying to rest up a bit. I leave again this weekend for a girls’ trip with one of my best friends (this time hubby will be the one stuck at home). Between all the traveling, house prep and training it hasn’t left time for much else!

Lately I’ve really enjoyed arm workouts. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE a killer leg workout and try to work in legs at least 3 times a week per my coach, but it’s probably a good change.

In the spirit of this new found appreciation, I figured I would post an at home tricep workout from a few months ago.

10 walk out tricep push-ups (elbows in at your sides instead of wide)

3 sets:

  • 12 dumbbell chest press
  • 15 BOSU tricep dips
  • 20 BOSU crunches

3 sets:

  • 20 overhead tricep extensions
  • 12 BOSU push ups

3 sets:

  • 12/arm tricep kickbacks
  • 20 v-ups

I hope you all are having an awesome week so far, we’re over halfway to the weekend! Do you have a favorite body part to train?

30 Minute Legs

31 Mar

I don’t know about you but this weather back and forth is taking a major toll on my allergies and sinuses! Sunday I was completely knocked on my butt. Thank goodness for other medical friends who come over and confirm you don’t have strep when you can’t swallow but don’t want to go to urgent care. (Times I love being a nurse… check). Because I wasn’t feeling so hot, Sunday and Monday turned into off days and I HATE taking two in a row. I can’t remember the last time I had to do that but, sometimes, you have to listen to your body.

Today I knew I had to get a solid workout in. There was a little confusion with my trainer this morning and we ended up moving that workout but I still took advantage of being at the gym early and got a great leg workout in before having to come home and meet the carpet cleaners. If you’re tight on time I almost always go to timed super sets.

Here it is:

3 sets:

  • 15 walking lunges /leg
  • 15 hamstring curls on balance ball
  • 12 goblet squats

3 sets:

  • 12 Leg press
  • 15 side shuffles/side (stay low!)
  • 12 Straight leg deadlift with upright row

That’s it. Don’t rest more than 45 sec- 1 min in between super sets and try not to rest between exercises. Took about 20-25 min and then later today a friend came over and we took the pups on a hike at one of the state parks around here. All in all, my legs are pretty tired 🙂

Spring is Here!

Last night hubby actually got home at a decent hour and suggested we go look for bikes. We’ve been talking about it for a long time and trying to decide how serious we were going to be about it (i.e. How much money we wanted to spend on it) but finally decided to just bite the bullet and buy something that would work for the casual and commuting riding we plan to do. I called my brother (mountain bike guru) to get his quick advice and we settled on Diamondbacks. We took a short bike ride around our neighborhood last night and hubby rode his to work today, I’ll keep you posted on our review once I get some more bike time in. For now I’m excited just to have them!
